This has been a really busy fall. I keep on thinking things are going to slow down, but there have just been more and more opportunities popping up! I’ve had the chance to perform a lot in so many cool places and with so many awesome people. The Indie music and Folk scenes are such supportive communities. For that I am grateful.
I am so lucky to have grown up as a musician within The Girls Rock Camp Toronto community and to have experienced for the last 5 years how women in the music community help and support each other. I am glad I am coming of age as a singer songwriter in a feminist, social justice oriented community and I already know that this has influenced the path I want to take as I make my way in music.
A couple of weeks ago, my friend Asa (from the awesome band Kingdom of Birds) and I were lucky to get to hang out with the fabulous Kinnie Starr as she interviewed us for the exciting upcoming documentary Play Your Gender. www.playyourgender.com It was really cool to get to spend so much time with such an accomplished musician and someone who really understands what it is like to navigate the music industry as a woman. I learned a lot by talking with her and it has been exciting to see the impressive list of musicians they are featuring in the film, many of whom have been influencing me for years.
I am so thankful for all the people who have helped me get my music out there the last few months and years. I am so happy to be playing more and ready to find new audiences in the coming months.
